HSB CEO Daniel Knoblich hopes to boost grassroots sport through the training facility concept of the Olympic bid and, in particular, ‘one or two places on top’.1. During the so-called participation procedure, figures on the training centre concept were published2.
NOlympia Hamburg speakers Eckart Maudrich In this regard:
“According to current knowledge, 92% the Hamburg training facilities of Olympia untouched. There are serious doubts about optimism about on-top places, because – contrary to what was originally suggested – the federal government does not even cover the application costs of EUR 18 million. Concrete cost commitments for infrastructure, security and other implementation costs do not exist – unlike Munich in 1972. For Munich in 1972, the federal government had taken over 50% promised the cost. At the same time, a multi-billion-dollar empty-purpose arena (the ‘Elb-Bernabéu’) is planned, which will claim financial focus. Olympia is therefore the wrong horse to fulfil the desire for additional sports grounds and a greater impulse for modernisation at training centres for grassroots sports.”
