According to the preliminary final result, the hamburgers with 54.9% voted against an application for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2036, 2040 and 2044.
Eckart Maudrich, spokesperson for NOlympia Hamburg:
‘The No to Olympia is a vote for more spending in gyms, sports fields and swimming pools, all of which have a benefit and against a suburban arena that serves almost exclusively commercial interests of individuals. The no also means that in Hamburg we cannot see any comprehensible justification for a tax-exempt perpetual guarantee from profit-oriented associations such as the IOC. Hamburg also has no understanding of the one-sided burden-bearing rule from the Olympic Charter. With its claims for profits, the support of the federal government and the completely distorted presentation of the financing task, the Senate has far exceeded the limits of the principle of objectivity. We expect the mindset of Civil Servants from our politicians, not Spin Doctors. With the direct mailing of policy teaching materials not guided by the principle of controversy to teachers by the Olympic advertising department of the Sportsenator and the direct influence of Hamburg advertising on the decision of the Council in Kiel, several red lines of understanding of democracy have been crossed, which must not be repeated.”
