Oops, we did it again: A clear majority against the Olympics.

With a clear majority of around 55% The Hamburgers voted against a Hamburg bid for the 2036, 2040 and 2044 Olympic and Paralympic Games. At 50% Hamburg had a national comparison with Munich (42%) and NRW (33%by far the highest voter turnout.

Eckart Maudrich, spokesperson for NOlympia Hamburg:

“With the second no, Hamburg voted in favour of fair play and team spirit in the rules of the Olympic Games. This result shows: The people of Hamburg love their city and do not allow themselves to be led behind the spruce by an advertising campaign costing millions of euros. The Senate's promises were too unreliable: Olympia as a salvation story for everything that the Senate does not get in line, a magical source of money for Hamburg's construction projects at the federal government and all of a sudden “stable rents”, although Olympia is a rent driver. The financial concept was also unbelievable, in which the billion-dollar costs for safety and the construction of an athletics stadium were simply omitted. This vote should be a lesson for Hamburg's politicians: People in the city don't want another lighthouse project. The people of Hamburg want affordable rents, well-funded social institutions, sports fields, universities and schools and they do not want fundamental rights such as accessibility to be made dependent on a mega-event such as Olympia. The Hamburg Senate must now address these problems. We are available to discuss Hamburg’s future.”
